Thank you for participating in the Huntington Beach Fire Department Junior Lifeguard Program Tryout. For this tryout on April 3, 2022, at Golden West College, there are some guidelines: your future JG must be prepared to swim; there are no changing rooms available; deck changes are not permitted; and only one parent per participant is allowed on deck. The time slots are 20 minutes so we can accommodate all the families. Attached is the map of the campus and where to park to access the pool, as well as the map of the participant’s progression.
Junior Lifeguard Tryout at 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Check-In process begins at the pool gate. The HBFD Marine Safety Lifeguard staff will assign each participant a Swim Lane for the 100 yard swim. After successfully completing the Swim portion, the participant will move to Deep Water Lanes. Again, after completing that portion, which includes the 5-minute treading water and swimming underwater for 10 yards, the participant is complete. The participant and the parent will be guided to the Completion and Registration area. The HBFD Marine Safety Lifeguard staff will explain the registration process and other requirements.
